I’ll Be Back

My day in pictures.

{My lovely walk to work}

{Along with the infamous pain au chocolat, Brioche also does have ‘bloody good coffee’.  Mention the blog to Stephan and he’ll be extra nice!}

{Lunch at Meat & Bread}

{Sandwich artist at work making my porchetta.  It was delicious.}

{It felt like downtown was a holiday, and now its back to work}

I don’t think I’ve ever been so busy at work as I have been in these past few days.  I’m looking forward to making the most out of my last day downtown – tomorrow, and I’m especially looking forward to an adventure this weekend – camping!  Everyone who knows me can safely say that I’m not exactly a camper.  But, I’m going to try this weekend (for one night at least).  My past experience in this area is dated back to elementary school.  It includes a sleepover in my friend Karissa’s treehouse – so we could go to Yarrow Days together, and a couple of sleepovers on our trampoline, in our backyard.  We didn’t quite ever make it through the entire night…  So, in order to prepare myself, I’ve started what I do each time when I need to do some planning or preparation: make a list.  This is it so far:

  • If sunny – outfit for first day: plaid shorts, BR white tank, Havianna’s from Philippinnes
  • If overcast – outfit for first day: white capri’s, navy blue Marc Jacobs cat t-shirt, Converse shoes
  • Pajama’s – pink cotton from Pinky
  • Undergarments
  • Extra’s – New Balance runners (for trekking around), socks, Hollister hoodie, bathing suit
  • Second day – H&M longsleeve purple tshirt, thick blue capri joggers, runners

  • Towel
  • Travel size – toothbrush, toothpaste, floss, facewash, Dermaglow sunscreen, wet wipes
  • Fresh Sugar Rose SPF 15 lip balm (one of my all time favourites!)
  • Q – do we need to take water??  Ask Bitu
  • Toilet paper – (omg. i’m kind of getting nervous)
  • Insect repellent

Sleeping Stuff

  • Tent!!  (I can’t wait to use it outside!  I’ve practiced setting it up in my living room once.  I got it 5 years ago when I thought I might be doing more of this…)  Need to find…
  • Air mattress – need to get – Canadian Tire?  Need to make sure it fits inside tent – take measurements of tent (once found).
  • Air pump for mattress
  • Sheet for air mattress
  • Duvet
  • Pillows

  • Smores – graham crackers, chocolate, marshmallows
  • Fruit – peaches, plums (from Yarrow)
  • Hotdogs(?) – need to go to Choices. Buns, condiments.
  • Q – ask Bitu if someone is taking BBQ
  • Cheese and crackers

Ok, so I need some help around food.  Anybody an experienced camper who can guide me on camping food?  What works?  Also, am I missing stuff from the other categories?  Any assistance is appreciated.

Dangers of Downtown

The main way I pacify myself about relocating to another work location from downtown is to think about all of the money I will save.  Everywhere I go there are signs.  Signs in the windows of so many lovely boutiques advertising 50-70% off all summer stock.  I am in serious trouble.  I did, however, find the deal of the decade at 212 – Marc Jacobs pants for $10…

{Block – super cute stuff from A.P.C and Loeffer Randal shoes}

{212 – one of my favourites; polished preppy, classic but modern – just my style!}

{Rowan Sky – they have the perfect Repetto ballet flats that are making me test my self constraint skills}

{RBuenn – fairly new store on Cordova, across from Block. Cute dresses}

{Rubi & Kino – great work pieces, cute shoes, solid bags from Matt & Nat}

{two of a few – super unique clothes, shoes and bags; they also carry some cute kids stuff}

Fall for Red

{Anne Hathaway with a timeless look for red lips in The Devil Wears Prada}

A bold, red lip is a timeless classic, but this fall, it’s especially hot.  If you are only adding one piece to your fall wardrobe, let it be a red lipstick.  Think you can’t wear red?  There is a perfect red for everyone!  Go to your favourite beauty counter, mine is here, and try on all different types of red.  The staff at the counter will usually recommend the shades they believe to best suite your skin tone.  If you’re hesitant to try a full-on red lip, try a glaze or a stain for a softer effect.  These are some of my favourites:

  1. Chanel – Gabrielle – My work red, a true, sophisticated and classic red.
  2. Benefit – Benetint – A ‘just been kissing’ soft, natural stain.
  3. Stila – Poppy Colour Pot – Dual purpose lip and cheek stain, perfect for getting a soft stain.
  4. Chanel – Paris – The perfect evening red with the perfect name.  And a hint of shine.
  5. MAC – Lady Danger – Intense, bright orangy red.  Every girl should have a version of this shade.
  6. Jane Iredale – Nicole– A soft, true red glaze with a matte affect, also seen here.
  7. Nars – Cruella – Easy application chubby stick.  Deep, bluish red.
  8. Lipstick Queen – Medieval – Poppy King has mastered the sheer, balmy blood red.
  9. Chanel – Lune Rosse – A deep burgundy red, perfect for the fall.
  10. MAC – Fushia – An intensely pigmented pinky red.  Can be used as a soft stain or a deep matte.

Soaked in the City

I had a bit of a Carrie Bradshaw moment this morning when I walked out of the train station directly into torrential downpour in my dress, heels and no umbrella.   I saved my shoes (and me of course) by hurrying to my favourite coffee bar and treating myself to my daily breakfast – pain au chocolate and a latte.  [Side note – I found out that I am only downtown until the end of the month, and then have to relocate again (?!) to a location where no such luxuries exist, so I’m taking advantage of all the great eats that downtown has to offer before being subjected to bringing a lunch of dal roti again – but more on this later].  Kindly, the staff at Brioche lent me an umbrella for the day.  Lucky for me, it went with my outfit…
