Freedom to Feast

I went for a run today. I have ran in the past but by no means would qualify as a runner. My usual forms of exercise are very occasional yoga, chasing around my nephews, seasonal hiking and frolicking in lakes. Unfortunately, none of the above happen on a regular basis and I’m tired of the ‘I’m no longer pregnant, but still kind of look it’ look. So, I’ve decided to do something about it. I love the fact that a bit of moderate exercise lets me indulge in great stuff like this:

{very delicious ice-cream}

And this:

{Restaurant 62 Chicken and Pancetta Pasta in White Wine Sauce = my lunch today. I generally never order pasta when eating out, but this was SO good!}

Anyhow, I hope you had a great weekend. Mine was busier than usual. I saw a lot of family which was crazy but awesome, like usual. I also saw one of my dearest friends. She is the kindest and most thoughtful person I know. And, I’m very excited to see her next weekend again at her Dinosaur party. I also got a couple of deliveries (s.s. stuff from before stupid number four), that I’m quite excited about but more on that later…

Loreal Voluminous Mascara

This isn’t really my deal but I feel obligated to let you know that Voluminous Mascara by Loreal is 50% off at the Abbotsford London Drugs. I’m not sure if this deal is available at other stores… Might want to call and check before trekking down. Anyhow, this is definitely one of my favourite drug store products and at $4.99 I think it’s a great deal!

Thank You

Hello, hope you’ve had a good week. I wanted to say a big thank you to everyone for all of your comments and feedback and for following my blog. I am so honoured and I love it! I feel like I need to do a special shout out to C.E. who pretty much made my week with her lovely note. I was grinning like an idiot all day long. Seriously, I appreciate it and its very motivating and inspiring. So thank you. Feel free to say hello and more anytime! I really like hearing from you.

I hope you have an awesome weekend!

Classic Beef Stew

20130425-213336.jpg
I bought this cookbook a while back and since have made a few recipes from it. My favourites are the Macaroni and Cheese, Potato Gratin with Gruyere and this Classic Beef Stew. It’s possibly the best I’ve ever had and I make it when I have cravings for hot comfort food.

I couldn’t find the recipe for it online (?) so am attaching this picture. (If you find it online, please let me know and I’ll add a link and remove this horrendous picture. If you can’t read it – I’m sorry. Let me know and I will somehow get it to you). I tweaked it a bit and used top sirloin instead of beef chuck (this way you don’t have to skim off the fat) and I threw everything in (carrots, potatoes and peas) at step number three at the same time because I like it all to be at the verge of falling apart. And also cause then you can skip the rest of the steps.

Bon Appetit!

Lesson of the Day

Don’t cheat. It’s not worth it.

Yesterday, I went to the supermarket and as I was checking out I noticed the rack of magazines. Glossy, beautiful and informative magazines. Apparently Will and Kate are really excited about their baby. That’s great news! Parents that are excited to have a baby are wonderful. And then I saw something from from the corner of my eye (I swear my brain is constantly, unconsciously on the lookout for stuff like this) ’50 Best Beauty Tips! Hair & Makeup Tricks That Will Change Your Life’. In the name of research, I had to get it.

So I happily left the store and walked to my car. In my excitement I didn’t notice that the keys slipped from my fingers into the shopping bag, while putting the groceries in the trunk of my car… and slammed the trunk shut.

Lessons Learned

1. I should have not cheated on number four for something so insignificant… I mean for anything. I later realized that this magazine contains what I believe to be the most awful reoccurring column ever ‘Who Got It Right.’ It’s about which celebrity wore a certain look better, which is basically based on whichever celebrities are popular at the time. It’s so mean! Poor Courtney Love gets hated on all the time.

2. My life hasn’t changed.

Thank you Ranjit who happened to be walking out of the store moments later and offered to drive me home to get the spare key. I think he muttered something like ‘I’m not surprised…?’

Shades of Pink for Spring

Hello! Pink lips are the thing for this spring and summer. Shades varying from 60’s style pale pink to deep, matte finishes. And the great thing is is that everyone can wear pink! Really. To keep the look fresh and modern, keep your skin and the rest of your face toned down.

Over my base (Bobbi Brown corrector, Jane Iredale powder) I am wearing:
Mary Kay brow pencil in black/brown
Bobbi Brown gel eyeliner in Sepia Ink (smudged into top lash line)
Rimmel Scandaleyes eyeliner in Bad Girl Bronze under bottom lash line for a bit of definition
Tart Lights, Camera, Lashes mascara in Black
Estée Lauder blush in Radiant Berry
Chanel Evanescente lipstick

Some pinks that work well for most skin tones are:

Pale – Revlon Mauve It Over, Chanel Evanescente, Dermaglow Cafe Latte, MAC Lovelorn

Medium – Givenchy Pretty Rose, MAC Lustering, Dior 767, Chanel Insolente

Deep – Chanel Cambon, Revlon Just Bitten Balm Stain in Sweetheart, Clinique Chubby Stick in Pudgy Peony, Rimmel lip liner in Indian Pink, MAC Rani

*Please note that these products may look widely different on unique skin tones.

Earth Day

Happy Earth Day everyone! Everyone can take part in Earth Day in some way. Some easy ways to participate in making our planet more beautiful are:

1. Be Power Smart. Turn off the lights when you don’t need them. Hang your clothes to dry. I hang (or flat dry) most of my clothes and I’ve found that it keeps them looking newer for much longer, especially my work clothes.
2. Plant something. Anything.
3. Eat less and better quality (locally grown, organic) meat. Shop at local farmers markets. There are two in Abbotsford! Support them.
4. Watch the Story of Stuff.
5. Don’t litter and recycle everything you can. I went for a walk in the park today with one of my best friends and saw students going around the park, picking up trash. I can’t believe people still litter!
