Casual Friday

Hi! Haven’t done this for a while. These are some of the key pieces for my spring capsule. Hope the start of Spring has been beautiful for you! Oh, and I chopped off my hair.

Back to Work

I keep wanting to write ‘back to school’ because it kind of feels like it after my long break. Today was actually my second day back to work (I went one day last week), and it felt surreal. I’m planning on easing back into work over the summer and then start full time in September. In the interim, I’ve been stressing about what to wear. I always try to maintain a polished and professional look for work, but added a summertime twist. This what I conjured up today:

Stripes for Spring

This dress was part of my s.s. in Paree (thank you Raman Cheema for being my collaborator). I’m super glad that I got it because it’s so easy to wear. I think it’s perfect for spring with some short boots and a cardigan. It would also look great with motorcycley boots (without the hardware) – I don’t know what they’re called, and a bouffant ponytail for more of a punky look.  The boots I’m wearing are kind of coming apart but I love them and still wear them constantly because they’re so comfortable. I was kind of running out of the door when my cousin snapped these pictures, and I realized later that I had forgot to put on mascara…calamity!

Time of Transition

I have been so busy with the changes in my department at work that I feel like I haven’t had very much time to interact with family or friends this week.  So, when my sister invited me to join them at a local corn patch, I agreed (as long as she agreed to bring me a pair of socks, boots and a warm jacket – luckily it was casual friday so that’s all I needed).  It felt a bit early in the year to be visiting a corn maze, but the overcast sky and coolness in the air is clearly indicative of fall.

Last night I attended my cousin’s mayian, possibly the last mayian ceremony of the year, and it was so nice and easy.  The last few close mayian functions that I’ve attended have been quite a bit of work either because I was doing make-up for the bride, family, etc. or I was part of the giddha performance or busy as the MC [and once, all of the above].  Last night, however, was pretty much all about me.  And Harry of course – the groom.  My anarkali was light and super easy to handle and I wasn’t wearing any heavy jewellry except for some delicate earrings which made dressing up bearable in the warm summer night.

Soaked in the City

I had a bit of a Carrie Bradshaw moment this morning when I walked out of the train station directly into torrential downpour in my dress, heels and no umbrella.   I saved my shoes (and me of course) by hurrying to my favourite coffee bar and treating myself to my daily breakfast – pain au chocolate and a latte.  [Side note – I found out that I am only downtown until the end of the month, and then have to relocate again (?!) to a location where no such luxuries exist, so I’m taking advantage of all the great eats that downtown has to offer before being subjected to bringing a lunch of dal roti again – but more on this later].  Kindly, the staff at Brioche lent me an umbrella for the day.  Lucky for me, it went with my outfit…
